Flutist Mario Carbotta has captivated audiences around the world with performances in New York, Montreal, Tokyo, London, Beijing, Geneva, São Paulo, Istanbul, Brussels, Bucharest in prestigious venues such as the Goldener Saal of the Wiener Musikverein, the Rudolfinum in Prague, the Tonhalle in Zurich, Bulgaria Hall in Sofia, the Cairo Opera House, Glenn Gould Studio of the CBC in Toronto, Seoul Arts Center guest at international festivals such as Santander, Perelada, van Vlanderen, Ljubliana, Varna, Zagreb.

He completed his studies in Italy, at the Conservatory of Piacenza, graduating with honors in 1984 and at the advanced courses of the Fiesole School of Music from 1985 to 1988. Among his teachers were M. Saletti, E. Egaddi, A. Danesin, M. Ancillotti. Awarded prizes in numerous competitions, including the prestigious “Francesco Cilea” in Palmi in 1988, he began his activity at a very young age, first in opera-symphony orchestras and later performing solo and chamber music with concerts throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

He has performed much of the solo repertoire accompanied by more than 80 internationally prominent symphony and chamber orchestras including: Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich Wien, European Union Chamber Orchestra, Slovak Sinfonietta, Sofia Sinfonietta, Cairo Symphony Orchestra, Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Mexico State Symphony Orchestra, Israel Sinfonietta, China Film Philharmonic Beijing, and also in Italy with the Istituzioni Concertistico Orchestrali of Milan (Pomeriggi Musicali), Bari, Parma, Sanremo, Palermo (FOSS), L’Aquila, Ancona; in Germany with the orchestras of Mainz, Mannheim, Frankfurt (Deutsches Kammerorchester), Oldenburg, Sondershausen, Konstanz; in Poland with the philharmonics of Bydgoszcz, Kraków, Rszezów, Szezcin, Katowice, Koszalin; and in the Czech Republic with the philharmonics of Ceske Budejovice, Teplice and Zlin (Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic).

He has worked with prestigious artists and ensembles: Camerata San Paolo del Brasile, Quartetto di Cremona, I Solisti Aquilani, Archi della Scala, Wiener Kammerorchester, the RTSI Choir of Lugano conducted by Diego Fasolis, Juventus Collegium of the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), violinists Luigi Alberto Bianchi, Mario Hossen, Marco Bianchi (Giardino Armonico); mandolinist Avi Avital; harpist Cristina Bianchi; pianists Roberto Cognazzo and Carlo Balzaretti, flutists Philippe Bernold and Angelo Persichilli.

He also has extensive conducting experience with the Civica Orchestra di Fiati of Milan, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, the Orchestra Sinfonica Metropolitana di Bari, the Orchestra Regionale dell’Emilia Romagna “A. Toscanini” and the Státny Komorný Orchester Zilina (Slovakia).

His critical editions (Suvini Zerboni, Carisch, Rugginenti, Vigormusic) and recordings (Dynamic/Naxos, Tactus, Brilliant) demonstrate his experience both as a musician and scholar.

A passionate music popularizer, he was artistic director of the chamber orchestra “Milanoclassica” (a group born from the ashes of the Angelicum orchestra) from 2001 to 2009, and from 1998 to 2019 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the “I Pomeriggi musicali” Foundation in Milan, where he served as vice-president for four years.

He teaches at the “Giuseppe Nicolini” Conservatory of Music in Piacenza and has given master classes in Italy, Austria (International Music Academy Orpheus in Vienna), Brazil, Bulgaria, Spain, Poland and the USA.
